Monday Morning Quarterback; Reflections from your Pastor……
Who do you say you are? What is your identity? Would you say it is your job, your career, your possessions, your family? Social scientists posit something they call the “looking glass theory” that states our identity is formed based on how others who are very important to us, see us. For example, how our parents, spouse, your boss, co-workers, view us/treat us (thoughts become actions) sets the stage for how we view ourselves, our primary identity. As much as we would like to tell ourselves “it doesn’t matter what other people think”, the fact is, our psyche believes differently. So, what if we understood fully and as completely as possible, just how much God loves us! The truth that God came to save us, to die for us, only because he loves us could be a place to start where we can see our value through God’s eyes. In this truth, we can find our primary identity and begin to embrace ourselves as the “one Jesus loves”. In embracing this as our primary identity, everything else in our life flows from the truth that God loves us beyond our comprehension. This love forms and shapes us and then flows into all that we do; how we see others, how we treat others. In turn, others then see themselves as loved and the wave continues. Let love be your identity, let love be the rule, not the exception. You have this wonderful love of God within you and you have the power to change the world. Be the change that you wish to see in the world.
